We are editing!

Here is a picture of Daniel editing our film together! This was taken after we had put all of the footage onto the PC, and playing about with individual clips!

Background Music for Film

As we were origionally looking into our film genre, we noticed that many films similiar to what we aspired ours to be, had one thing in common; their introduction music. Although music is a huge part of allot of films (It helps create, at times, a particular moood & ambiance). Throughout brief analysis of some similiar films, we noticed that the music used was also very similiar. (Some of the films we looked at included: Layer Cake, Lucky Number Slevin, Reservoir Dogs, Crank, Se7en, The Boondock Saints, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Twelve Monkeys, Hooligans)

Most of the theme music to the films, were well known (This is because either a) They production company got rights to the music, or b) the music artist gave the production company the music to boost publicity). We knew that we were unable to use Copyrighted music in our short film, so we had to carefully search for Royalty Free music which was appropriate!

Most of the music on the films we found, was soft rock; included guitars, and didn't always start singing immediatley.

Out of many Royalty Free music websites we found, a site called DanoSongs.com had a very wide range of music for us to search through.

After careful consideration, we found two songs that we liked (One of which is the one we used for the actual film)

http://www.danosongs.com/music/danosongs.com-crawledoutofagrave.mp3 - This introduction was similiar to what we were looking for... No singing right away, which helped the viewer listen to the main character's voice much more.

http://www.danosongs.com/music/danosongs.com-thetimeisntright.mp3 - This we felt was also very good, but it had talking at the beginning (We also tried this track, turning the volume down and up, around the character talking.. but we felt it wasn't as effective.)

Example Music

As we are searching the internet for some royalty free music we could use for our film and that fits the nature of the film, I thought I would post some examples of the music we like from films very similar to ours.
This is the opening music for Rock n Rolla, it's called 'I'm a man' by Backstrobe. The music is Rock the same kind of genre we are looking for and it contains a guitar riff all the way through that gives the music power.

Reservoir dogs also contains an older soft rock song, it has a guitar rythm opening before the music starts much like what we are wanting. The song is the song is 'Little Green Bag' by George Baker.

Hopefully now that we have had a look at examples of music we like we will find it easier to find a piece that will fit our film.

The script has been printed out and given to each character to take a look at, and of course Joe Porello (Played by Daniel), to memorise the diegetic sound! :D

Preparing for Filming

Today, the three members of the production team have been at location B preparing to film at the weekend.

Some of the duties carried out, involved..

- Making sure all props were there (This included the cards, guns, and that everyone had correct costume)
- Making sure all characters were available and able to stick to the schedule.
- The car was cleaned (Just incase..)
- Cleaning the garage out, and making sure everything looked nice.

We feel we are now fully prepared for the weekend!

Weather forecast for weekend

Here is the weather cast for this week. As you can see, the weekend is ideal for us (and all of the actors), as the weather should be good on Saturday, and Sunday if it is not finished!

As you can see, on the map below (Around the Wakefield area), there is no rain forecasted for the weekend! We will be posting again to show the timetable for the cast (etc)

Buying Props

This morning me and Andy have been into Barnsley town centre to try and find some of the props we needed for filming with later on. We already had most of them, we all owned cards and poker chips and glasses and cans could be found easily around the home. We bought some ties for our characters from Burtons a clothes store. However we still needed some guns to use as props so me and Andy went into some toy shops and found some that were a good size and even though they are blue they should look alright when we edit the film into black and white.

Camera Positions

Along with the shot list, we thought it would be a great idea to plan out our shot list. Although this is not certain, at least it will help us position the camera a little better when we come to filming. The pictures are not too complicated, but cover the whole 34 shots during the filming process
